Driving Towards the Sun on a Thursday by Nora Tsai

I wake up satiated that morning

Honey sun oozed between the cracks

in my skin, I pocket the leftovers for

later when winter comes

Your voice wraps itself gingerly around

my wrist and throat, I feel myself

bend towards you

The pain of yesterday colors the road

ahead of me, blurring as I press down on the pedal

harder than he hits

faster than you can pluck shards of your love off the floor

softer than the roughest parts of leaving

I can feel my body breaking slowly

but at least together we drive towards the sun
